Here’s What she said about the Book...

The Story Behind On the Job Injured Worker Handbook

Although I never really considered myself to be a writer, after living through the worker’s compensation claims process,I felt compelled to write this book.  My hope was to be able to help even one injured worker who may be thinking about filing a claim or is right in the middle of one.  I think about all the information I had to personally gather and come to understand; important information that could have literally meant thousands of dollars to me, had I been adequately informed.  That is why I wrote this book, I was encouraged and inspired by the various people that I was able to help in different online forums.  I saw that I could help after talking and answering questions about my lilmited experience with the worker’s compensation claims process.  Many people are willing to learn and do the leg work themselves, they just need to understand some things to watch for and during what stage to watch for it.  Knowing in advance works out much better than trying to get up to speed and learn everything on the fly.

I know first-hand how hard it can be, trying to understand what all the legal jargon flying over your head is all about.  The last place you need to be scratching your head and wondering what’s going on is in the middle of a worker’s compensation hearing.  I learned the hard way how foolish it is for an injured worker to arrive to a legal proceeding without no knowledge of what to expect about the proceedings or the outcome.  The thought of helping even one person avoid that type of fiasco made writing this handbook worth it to me.

When I saw how anxious people online were to gain knowledge that could help their case, I thought of how I felt after having to fire my worker’s compensation attorney.  He basically lost my case against my employer, even though my reptetive stress injury ended up derailing my whole life.  At one point, I discovered that I still had a chance to gain some kind of recompense for my injury, so I took over my own case.

Even though I didn’t have a clue about how to proceed, I was determined to learn, so I began figuring out which questions to ask, then I not only asked them, but I made sure to get the answers.  That is what I’ve tried to do in my book, thanks to the inspiration I got from people who find themselves in the same place I was once in.  Hopefully, the information I provide in the book is helping to make a difference in some injured workers’ life.
